Chocolate Covered Cherries

Ingredients

2 cups flour
3/4 cups sugar
1/3 cups cocoa
3/4 cups (1 to 1/2 sticks) oleo
1 egg, beaten
1 tsp. vanilla
1 jar maraschino cherries

Directions

Sift flour, sugar and cocoa. Cut in 3/4 cups (1 to 1/2 sticks) oleo. Add egg and vanilla. Mix well and roll into 4 balls. Chill at least 2 hours or overnight. Drain jar of cherries overnight, then dry well on paper towels to make sure no liquid is left in the cherries. Take enough dough to wrap around cherry. Place on waxed paper. You may add leave to decorate. Chocolate will harden fast being cherries are frozen. Place in small cups. Either freeze or refrigerate. Extra dough can be dropped on cookie sheet and press half walnut on top. Bake or slice refrigerated dough, bake and make sandwich type cookie with favorite filling.
