Snow on the Mountain

Ingredients

1/2 lb. butter
1 1/2 cup sugar
3 egg yolks
1/8 tsp. salt
grated rind of lemon
2 cups sifted four
2 tsp. baking powder
1 cup fine walnuts
1 cup bread crumbs
2 apples sliced thin

Directions

Cream butter, add sugar, egg yolks, lemon rind. Mix flour, baking powder and bread crumbs and add to first mixture then add nuts. Dough is rather stiff. Divide into 2 parts. Spread dough evenly into greased pan. Spread apples over dough. Dot with butter, cinnamon and lemon juice. Then put rest of dough on top. Bake 350 degrees or until brown. Then beat the egg whites stiff and add 1/2 cup powdered sugar and few nuts. Spread over cake and return to oven to brown.
